KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — Flamboyant cosmetic entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri is back with a brand new Hari Raya song this year, featuring local singer Iman Troye.
The Raya ya ya music video (MV) depict Aliff and Iman as bickering siblings who learn to get along with each other, encapsulating the spirit of forgiveness during Aidilfitri.
The 38-year-old who has been heavily criticised for his antics in his past Raya MVs appears to finally be making the right moves with many online users giving Aliff the thumbs up for now going overboard in the Raya ya ya MV, released last week.
“Now this is a good MV, appropriate clothing even if you don’t have a nice singing voice, it is still acceptable. This is how you do it, we wouldn’t mind if Datuk wants to put out Raya songs every year after this, as long as the MV is like this,” YouTube user Sand_Wish said in the comments below the clip.
“I’m moved after seeing Datuk Aliff Syukri singing a Raya song normally,” another user ANMasterPiece said.
“Iman Troye is the first human to successfully prevent Aliff Syukri from desecrating the holy months of Ramadan and Syawal. Congratulations,” layanstudio8545 added.
Raya ya ya can be seen as the D’Herbs founder’s comeback bid after last year’s mishap with the Love Raya that saw the MV being dropped altogether after the eyebrow-raising teaser showing a group of men dancing in colourful spandex, which was deemed too obscene.
Aliff was hauled up by both the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission over the teaser.
He later removed it from his accounts after being told to do so by his mother.
The tide may be turning for Aliff, but he now faces competition from his daughter Qadejah El Zahra who has also released a song this Raya.
Titled Raya GenZ, Qadejah’s MV features other young singers like Datuk Seri Vida’s daughter Cik B along with Ara Aziz and Alyssa Dezek in Turkiye and has gained over 60,000 views on YouTube since its release last week.
Qadejah told Harian Metro that her Raya song was completed on the same day as her father’s.
She admitted to feeling some pressure at comparisons being made after receiving some public criticism, but sees it as healthy competition and a good learning curve.
